Homestuck cosplayers, I have discovered something wonderful. Move over, Snazaroo and Ben Nye—there’s a new grey in town, and I have fallen in love instantly.
It’s called Mehron CreamBlend Stick, in light grey. It’s cream-based, so if you’ve had a bad reaction to cream-based makeup you probably shouldn’t bother with this one, but if not, I think it might be Literally Perfect. (Granted, I haven’t gone full grey with it yet, but a friend of mine went full grey with it at Fanime, and it looked FANTASTIC, so I’m hopeful!)
First off, it comes in a twist-up stick—think Chapstick, but a lot bigger, obviously. That makes it super easy to apply. (That was my main issue with Ben Nye—it was a pain to apply, even with a nice makeup sponge!)
Secondly, it’s cream-based. This may be a deal-breaker for some people, since some people do have bad reactions to cream-based makeup, but for me, it’s a true blessing. Snazz has never worked on me, at least not very well—I have hyperhidrosis (a disorder that basically causes me to sweat like Equius, except pretty much ALL the time instead of just when I’m nervous or horny), so no matter how much I sealed it, the fact that it was water-based always came back to haunt me. So if you sweat a lot in general, or if you go to a con in hot weather, this might be a lifesaver.
Finally, the coverage is AMAZING. See that smear I applied to my arm? Yeah, that’s ONE LAYER. (It does seem to become slightly less opaque as it dries—which happens fairly quickly—so I think I’ll probably go with two layers to be on the safe side, but that’s still way better than any other grey I’ve tried.)
It IS a bit pricey if you buy it from the official site (thirteen bucks plus shipping), but luckily it can be found elsewhere for considerably cheaper—I got it for just over ten bucks with free shipping on eBay, and it’s only slightly more than that on Amazon (around 11 bucks, if you include shipping costs). So really it’s not that much more expensive, and frankly I think it’s completely worth those few extra dollars.
So that’s my shameless plug! Hope this helps!
Thanks for the heads-up on the pores thing—I’ll most definitely keep that in mind! :)
(Also the expletives-as-amplifiers comment is kind of amusing to me for the sole reason that as a rule, I DO tend towards doing that…but it didn’t feel right to do it in this post, somehow, you feel me?)
